Celebrate Quality Improvement Week 2026

September 9, 2026
QI-Week-2026-scaled

Quality Improvement (QI) Week is back from 14-18 September 2026, bringing together people, teams, organisations and systems to celebrate the power of improvement and the difference it makes to patients, communities and staff. The week is open to everyone, whether you’re completely new to improvement or already leading large-scale transformation programmes. It offers a chance to learn, share ideas, celebrate success and connect with others who are passionate about making things better.

At Boost, we believe that improvement is everyone’s business. Every day, health, care, local authority and VCSE colleagues across the North East and North Cumbria are making changes that improve experiences, outcomes and ways of working. QI Week is an opportunity to shine a light on that work, learn from others and build the confidence and skills needed to create positive change.

Quality improvement is for everyone

One of the key messages of QI Week is that QI is for everyone. You don’t need a formal improvement role or extensive experience to get involved. Improvement starts with curiosity, asking questions, understanding what matters to people and testing ideas that could make things better.

Whether you’re looking to improve a local process, strengthen partnership working, reduce inequalities, enhance patient experience or support neighbourhood health, quality improvement provides practical methods and tools that can help turn ideas into action.

How Boost can help

As part of our evolving learning and improvement offer, Boost is committed to helping people across the system work together, work differently and improve outcomes for communities. This includes supporting people to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to lead and deliver improvement in practice.

Over the coming months, our refreshed offer will include opportunities to:

  • Build confidence in quality improvement methods and approaches
  • Connect with peers through learning networks and communities of practice
  • Share learning and innovation through Lunch & Learn and Connect & Learn sessions
  • Develop the skills needed to improve services, experiences and outcomes across health and care

We also offer one-to-one coaching, providing a supportive space to explore challenges, develop your thinking and build confidence in leading change. Whether you’re tackling a specific improvement challenge, developing a project idea or looking for support to embed improvement approaches within your team, coaching can help you turn ambition into action.

Share your improvement story

Quality Improvement Week is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the improvements happening across our region and inspire others through shared learning. Every improvement story matters, whether it’s a small change that has made life easier for colleagues, a project that has improved patient experience, or a large-scale initiative that has transformed services.

By sharing your experiences, successes and lessons learned, you can help others discover new ideas, avoid common pitfalls and build confidence to try improvement approaches in their own settings. Improvement spreads when people connect, learn from one another and adapt successful ideas to their local context.

Explore the Boost Improvement Toolkit

If you’re looking for practical support, our Improvement Toolkit brings together a range of tried-and-tested resources, tools and guides to help you apply improvement methods in practice. Whether you’re new to quality improvement or looking to expand your knowledge, the toolkit provides accessible support to help you develop ideas, test changes and measure impact.

Explore the Boost Improvement Toolkit to access practical resources that can support your improvement journey.

Get involved in QI Week

Throughout the week, organisations across the NHS and beyond will be hosting webinars, learning events, improvement showcases and local activities. There are also resources available to help teams run their own events, share their improvement stories and celebrate achievements.

If you’ve never been involved in quality improvement before, QI Week is the perfect place to start. If you’re already leading improvement work, it’s a great opportunity to inspire others, showcase your learning and celebrate the impact of your efforts.

Find out more

You can explore the national programme, access resources and discover opportunities to get involved on the Academy of Research and Improvement’s QI Week website. The site also includes examples and stories from previous years that can help spark ideas for your own improvement activities.

This Quality Improvement Week, why not take some time to celebrate your achievements, share your improvement story, explore the Boost Improvement Toolkit and connect with others who are passionate about improving health and care?

Together, we can build a culture where learning, curiosity and continuous improvement help us create better outcomes for the people and communities we serve.

Because improvement isn’t a project. It’s how we make things better, together.
