A new NIHR video resource designed to get children thinking about health and care research from a young age is now available. In the video on YouTube, award-winning author Alex Winstanley reads Ready for Research, which he wrote with the NIHR in 2023. The story is aimed at children up to 9-years-old. The video is ideal for display on screens in waiting areas and to support work with schools. It is also available in MP4 format with subtitles embedded.

Strengthening relationships between research and the VCSE sector: key insights from a collaboration event – 10 February 2026. Hosted by Connected Voice and delivered in partnership with Newcastle Health Research Partnership, Newcastle University, Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East (VONNE), the Health Determinants Research Collaboration Newcastle and the Health Determinants Research Collaboration Gateshead, the event explored how to build more equitable, effective research partnerships that benefit communities, researchers and the wider health landscape. Sussex Health and Care Research Partnership (SHCRP) Research Engagement Network (REN). The Research Engagement Network (REN) is part of the Sussex Health and Care Research Partnership (SHCRP) and aims to increase diversity, inclusion and participation in health and care research across Sussex. Funded through the national REN Development Programme, it brings together the NHS, universities and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to build trusted relationships with communities that are often underrepresented in research. The REN supports community‑led engagement, develops community researcher capacity, and works with researchers to improve inclusive research design and participation, helping ensure research better reflects and meets the needs of local populations. The Greater Manchester Research Engagement Network (REN). The NHS England funded Research Engagement Network in Greater Manchester is developing local partnerships between the Integrated Care system (ICS); NIHR Research infrastructure and Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations to better support diverse communities to get involved in research. How the NIHR Research delivery Network Agile workforce delivered research at a community farm school. Children and young people across the country are taking part in vital diabetes research, thanks to the Agile workforce taking studies out to the wider community.
The ELSA Study, which is screening for type 1 diabetes, is taking place in schools and community settings such as The Bread Kitchen, a community farm and training provider in Norfolk.
