Fresh and the NENC Smokefree NHS Taskforce are delighted to invite you to a free lunchtime seminar featuring Dr Katie East, Associate Professor in Public Health at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London.
Dr East’s research focuses on nicotine and tobacco product use, perceptions, and policies. In this session, she will explore the shocking truth about cigarette filters – often perceived as protective, but in reality, a major public health and environmental concern.
Despite their name, cigarette filters do not filter out toxic chemicals. They have been described as the “deadliest fraud in human civilisation”. Beyond health harms, filters are also the most littered item globally, with 3 million discarded every day in the UK.
