We’re delighted to introduce you to a brand-new podcast series – ‘Health Creators: Cumbria’.
These podcasts are hosted by Dr Dominic Slowie (Medical Director, NHS North East and North Cumbria ICB), and in them we will be hearing from a range of inspiring speakers about how they are helping create better health for people across Cumbria (and beyond!).
There is lots of fantastic work happening out there, and we wanted to give individuals this platform to share and learn from others – providing some insight, encouragement, and ultimately hope amongst the challenges we are all facing.
We hope that you enjoy listening, and that each episode helps you to reflect and perhaps even think about improvements you could make in your own work, team, or service.
In episode 6, Dr Dominic Slowie speaks to Dr Andy Knox, a GP in Carnforth (Lancashire) and Associate Medical Director of Population Health for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Health and Care System.
“What does a healthy town look like?” – Andy talks football, his work and experiences as a GP, and how asking this simple question opened up a whole new conversation in Carnforth about ways to create health in the community. This proactive approach to engagement has spread, helping to reduce inequalities in relation to cervical screening in Blackpool, and diabetes outcomes amongst the Bengali community in Burnley.
