
The Health Literacy team has launched their regional ‘Language of Health’ video. The video hears from members of the public as they’re asked about common health terms, to see if they understand what they mean.
Being able to understand health information is important. It is key to giving patients control over their own health, to making informed decisions about what’s right for them. But health information is complicated. Around 6 in 10 adults struggle to understand it. That’s more than half. In fact, all of us will struggle to understand it at some point in our lives.
What can we do about it? The answer may be simpler than you think. Watch the Language of Health video to see how use of complicated language is a problem and how it makes people feel:
