Supporting independent living

It has been developed by the TAPPI (Technology for our Ageing Population) programme which is funded by Dunhill Medical Trust and supported by a partnership of Housing LIN, TSA, Co-Production Works and Cambridge Centre for Housing & Planning Research. The toolkit provides a framework of six principles that can not only support the approach to embedding technology-enabled care, but also help in the shaping of future services. It follows a six-month inquiry which heard from more than 30 experts and people with lived …

The best at getting better – learning from ‘Nuka’

Earlier this month, we welcomed health and care colleagues from across the region to hear from two leaders from the Southcentral Foundation of Alaska. They spoke to us about their transformational journey and creation of the system of care, called ‘Nuka’, which is a powerful role model for integrated health systems globally. At the event, we heard from April Kyle, chief executive officer, and Doug Eby, medical director, who explained the approach taken to improve outcomes and reduce costs by working together with their communities over the last 20 years. Safe, effective, and responsive – the digital project improving care in North Tyneside nursing and residential homes

An innovative digital monitoring system, the Whzan Blue Box, has been helping to support the health of residents in North Tyneside care homes by spotting deterioration early.  The system, which has been supplied at no cost to older people care homes, is ensuring that residents receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. This pioneering equipment works by gathering and collating physiological data (such as blood pressure, level of consciousness, and temperature), before generating a National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) – a universal measure understood by care home staff, GPs, ambulance and hospital workers.
