Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of premature death in the North East and North Cumbria, with 24% of all deaths in the region linked to the condition. While approximately half of these deaths occur in women, symptoms can present very differently in women compared to men, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment.
A new podcast in collaboration with Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria (HI NENC) shines a spotlight on women’s health. Hear from Professor Julia Newton, Dr Saira Malik, and Tracy Marshall, to explore the unique cardiovascular risk factors affecting women. They discuss how menopause can impact CVD risk and why it’s important to know your numbers, particularly blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
