To mark Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Month, North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) is raising awareness about the dangers of alcohol consumption during pregnancy and the resulting spectrum of disorders that can affect children for life. There is no known safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy and the UK Chief Medical Officers’ low-risk drinking guidelines state that the safest approach is to avoid alcohol altogether.

To raise awareness and help health and care workers in the North East and North Cumbria region talk to their patients about alcohol in pregnancy, we are promoting the learning resources available on the Boost learning academy including:

  • An 8 minute video for all staff who have conversations with women during pregnancy covering the risks of drinking during pregnancy and how to talk to women about alcohol in pregnancy
  • A 15 minute video for staff in GP practices setting out why we ask and advise about alcohol in pregnancy and how to code this
  • A 1.5 hour eLearning package for Maternity Staff to help address alcohol harm in pregnancy using the NENC Alcohol in Pregnancy pathway

Please cascade these free resources to your networks and colleagues.
