Earlier this month marked Fertility Awareness Week (3–8 November), during which a new Fertility Leave Policy was introduced to support North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB) colleagues undergoing fertility treatment, and those supporting a partner through the process. This policy has been developed in collaboration with partners across the region, including CNTW, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Gateshead Council, South Tees Hospital, Cumbria Health, and Fertility Network UK.
Endorsed by Fertility Network UK as a gold standard approach, this policy provides practical support for staff and guidance for managers, helping create a more compassionate and inclusive workplace.
The full policy and additional resources can be accessed via the Boost learning academy, including:
These tools are open to everyone working in health and care across our system, and are designed to help teams approach fertility conversations with empathy and confidence.
Fertility treatment can be emotionally and physically demanding. By introducing this policy, NENC ICB is taking an important step towards supporting colleagues’ wellbeing and fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued.
