Across the North East and North Cumbria you can find a network of health libraries supporting staff and students with access to knowledge and evidence.
The NHS purchases a wide range of print and electronic library resources. NHS England funds a core collection of journals, e-books and databases which are accessible to all NHS staff. These are supplemented with more specialist resources by local NHS library services.
Online access is managed through the NHS OpenAthens system. NHS employees and employees of organisations contracted to provide NHS care are eligible to register for an OpenAthens account for free. By selecting the organisation you work for at registration will determine the resources you can access. For example, if you work for the Integrated Care Board (ICB), type: ICB North East and you should find a corresponding organisation.
Most North East and North Cumbria NHS libraries share a regional library catalogue. This means you can register once and access books from NHS libraries across our region. To register or request other library support, contact your nearest NHS health library by searching the Health Library and Information Service Directory.
