In 2023, Leeds became a Marmot City, committing to a two-year partnership with the Institute of Health Equity to take action on the social determinants of health and reduce health inequalities across the city.
This work is being delivered through the Fairer, Healthier Leeds programme, which aligns with the Marmot Principles and supports a long-term vision for equity in all aspects of city life – from housing and education to employment and healthcare.
As we continue to improve health and care across the North East and North Cumbria, learning from the experiences of other Marmot Cities like Leeds is vital. Their approach offers valuable insights into how local systems can embed equity into policy and practice, and how collaborative leadership can drive meaningful change.
By sharing learning and building on what works, we can strengthen our own efforts to tackle health inequalities and create fairer, healthier communities across our region.
