Brought to you by Boost in collaboration with North Cumbria Knowledge and Library Service, this LUNCH & LEARN session on 30 January 2025 saw Heidi Jobling (Deaflink Manager) and Lucy Thomson (Community Engagement Officer, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) deliver a presentation on ‘BSL Health Navigators’.
Our LUNCH & LEARNs are short, informal events that take place at lunchtime – while you take a break and eat, you can listen to our invited speaker as they give a short talk sharing information about their work, as well as their experience of improvement.
This session explored and discussed some of the issues affecting British Sign Language (BSL) users accessing healthcare services, the challenges for staff, and what can help. We also heard more about the BSL Health Navigator service, and the work the team are doing to improve outcomes, access, and waits for BSL users.

We are pleased to share that there are three deaf awareness modules available to anyone, which can be accessed via our learning academy (in the inclusion health section of the Healthcare Inequalities programme).
