Brought to you by CLIC in collaboration with North Cumbria Knowledge and Library Service, this Lunch & Learn session on 16 February 2023 saw Helena Gregory (Pharmacy and Medicines Lead, North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care Board) deliver a presentation on ‘Anticholinergic burden: Evidence into practice’.
There is increasing evidence that medicines with anticholinergic effects are associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment, falls and all-cause mortality in older people.
This session summarised the evidence, scoring scales and considered actions that healthcare professionals can take to maximise the benefits and minimise harm from medicines that may adversely affect cognitive function. With a particular focus on medicines used for urinary incontinence.
