Brought to you by Boost in collaboration with North Cumbria Knowledge and Library Service, this Lunch & Learn session on 23 January 2024 saw Debbie Austin (Strategic Learning Disability Workforce Development Manager – Family Carers / Learning Disability Network) deliver a presentation on ‘Understanding Lucy: Our journey with Positive Behavioural Support’.
Our Lunch & Learns are short, informal events that take place at lunchtime – while you take a break and eat, you can listen to our invited speaker give a short talk sharing information about their work, as well as their experience of improvement.
In this session, Debbie talked about her lived experience supporting her daughter, who has a severe learning disability and who is autistic.
Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) is a person-centred way of supporting people with a learning disability, which focuses on working in partnership with the individual, treating them with dignity, and ultimately enabling them to live a better life (Bild, 2023).
PBS has become a way of life for Debbie’s family, and has transformed their lives.
