Mindfulness is an innate capacity of the mind to be aware of the present moment in a non-judgemental way. It promotes a way of being that helps us to take better care of ourselves and lead healthier lives. It also enables us to access inner resources for coping effectively with stress, difficulty and illness.
There has been a growing interest in the use of mindfulness-based interventions to reduce stress, increase self-compassion and promote the health and well-being of health care staff in their place of work.
The Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) is on offer to health and care staff working/volunteering in the North East and North Cumbria, to explore its effectiveness as a self-care strategy.
The MBLC consists of a one-hour introductory class, followed by an 8-week course consisting of 8 classes, which are typically two hours long. Participants will also be required to participate in 30 minutes of daily practice throughout the duration of the 8-week course, as well as filling out pre and post-intervention questionnaires to measure its effectiveness.
Previous delegates have said:
“I think this course has been the most significant course I have ever undertaken. Its effects have been felt in all aspects of my life. Brilliant!”
“I feel I am more in tune with my emotions and less reactive, which has led to what I feel are better relationships and improved communication. I tend to carry less worry around with me at work and feel happier.”
“The MBLC is the most innovative thing [the Trust] has ever done. Something that is current and can benefit all [staff].”
