Across the North East and North Cumbria, organisations have come together to establish a Housing, Health, and Care Programme to build on the collaborative work already underway to tackle and mobilise on this important issue. The programme is the region’s sector-led improvement initiative focused on delivering better, more integrated housing, care, and support so that people can be healthy, live well, and stay independent in their own home.
The programme has launched a series of monthly webinars, hosted by the Northern Housing Consortium, for people working across health, housing and care to learn, share best practice and design solutions together.
Join the fifth webinar ‘Health and Housing Collaboration: Supporting Older People and Independent Living with Dementia’ which will be held online on Tuesday 20 May, 10-12pm online.
The webinar will focus on how health and housing sectors can work together to support older people, particularly those living with dementia, in maintaining their independence and quality of life. The North East and North Cumbria have a high prevalence of dementia diagnosis above the national average and are seeing an increase in dementia-related care admissions.
Therefore, the need for integrated approaches to care becomes increasingly vital. This session will explore the ways in which housing solutions, health services, and community support can align to promote well-being, prevent isolation, and create safe, dementia-friendly environments. Experts will share innovative strategies and real-world examples of successful collaborations.

The Housing, Health and Care Programme has been co-created by the North East branch of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, the Northern Housing Consortium, and the TEC Services Association (TSA); with many other partners involved too.
The programme has recently launched a five-year roadmap which sets out ambitions to improve housing, health and care for local communities. It has been developed from a recent review by the Housing Learning and Improvement Network (LIN) which highlights the region’s pressing housing needs, and is based on insights and feedback from events, roundtables and the programme’s community of practice. The roadmap is now being shared with organisations across the region as they look to develop more detailed plans to deliver ambitions and change.
