“Illuminating and inspiring” – The palliative care learning event reconnecting, rebuilding and respecting across north Cumbria

Around 150 health and care professionals came together on 15 November with the aim of developing palliative and end of life care across north Cumbria. Supported by Dr Kathryn Mannix, the event at the Greenhill Hotel (Wigton) looked at the ingredients which support a ‘good death’. Those who attended spent time considering the gaps, and how we could better work together to make improvements for patients. Dr Mannix, author of ‘With The End in Mind’ and ‘Listen’, described the event as “illuminating and inspiring” and spoke positively about the great energy in the room. Innovation and improvement are alive and well!

Efforts across our region to be the ‘best at getting better’ are at the forefront of learning and improvement approaches – according to a new report published by the NHS Confederation. Following on from the successful ‘Always the Right Door’ Children and Young People’s Mental Health Summit which took place on 25 October, we are thrilled to unveil the world café brochure – an anthology featuring not just the 25 stellar projects showcased at the summit, but also all submissions considered. Each exemplar aligns with the i-Thrive model and includes a contact point, urging you to engage, connect, collaborate, and contribute where possible. Mary Seacole Leadership Programme – now open for applications

We are pleased to announce that a new cohort of the Mary Seacole Local Leadership Programme is now open for applications. The programme is designed for first time/emerging leaders, runs over a six-month period, and learning is delivered through the national NHS Leadership Academy’s virtual campus. The programme includes films, interactive content, discussion forums and online resources, plus three full-day workshops with our very own expert facilitators. Applications are welcome from first time/emerging leaders from organisations working within the North East and North Cumbria region. Clinical Leadership for Integrated Care Programme – applications now open!

Applications are now open for the North East and Yorkshire Leadership Academy’s (NEYLA) Clinical Leadership for Integrated Care Programme. This programme will be delivered by The Staff College, and is designed for senior clinical and care professional leaders who are already involved in cross-system working as part of their current role and are working across North East and Yorkshire. This is a multi-professional open leadership programme for leaders who are involved in leading transformation and change within their system. New website launched for Primary Care Services in North Cumbria

A collaborative project in North Cumbria recently launched a new website to help support recruitment and increase the visibility of primary care services. ‘Primary Care Services North Cumbria’ is a collaboration of NHS Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and partner organisations working together to build resilience and improve patient outcomes. It is supported by the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) at Place, with the collaboration growing from long established working relationships between NHS general practices in North Cumbria. The website – www.primarycarenorthcumbria.co.uk – acts as a ‘front door’ to services (which along with GP surgeries now also includes pharmacy, dentistry and ophthalmology).
