NHS IMPACT (Improving Patient Care Together) is the single, shared NHS improvement approach. By creating the right conditions for continuous improvement and high performance, systems and organisations can respond to today’s challenges, deliver better care for patients and give better outcomes for communities.
NHS IMPACT has been launched to support all NHS organisations, systems and providers to have the skills and techniques to deliver continuous improvement.

Large scale programmes within the NHS can use the new NHS IMPACT Improvement Guide to self-assess whether they are applying best practice principles in adopting improvement as a method for design and delivery. This is applicable for programmes that are tackling complex topics, which require behaviour change, testing and learning. It can be used at any stage of the programme – new or established and will provide a snapshot of the maturity position at a point in time.

NHS IMPACT sharing events are held quarterly and are for anyone who is curious about improvement (all NHS staff, regardless of role). The events will provide updates from the National Improvement Board and NHS IMPACT programme, and include guest speakers from local organisations to share their own experience in relation to the topic.

NHS IMPACT lunch and learns explore topics related to getting started with improvement, coproduction, and a deep dive into the five components of NHS IMPACT. These sessions are hosted by Amar Shah, National Clinical Director for Improvement and Ailsa Brotherton, Improvement Director on the National Improvement Board, with guest speakers providing local examples, learning and experiences, followed by a whole group discussion.
