Wednesday 10 September was World Suicide Prevention Day, with a theme of ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’. This theme calls on us all to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations about suicide. It is about shifting from silence and misunderstanding to openness, empathy, and support – creating environments where people feel able to speak up and seek help.
In alignment with this theme, the North East and North Cumbria Suicide and Self Harm Research Collaborative will be running a free online workshop on Thursday 9 October (10am until 1pm), themed ‘Small Change, Big Impact’.
This is an opportunity for people to hear from people who have been personally affected by suicide, as well as learn about research that is underway to support those affected by self-harm or suicide.
The event will also offer an opportunity to work together to agree one small thing we can work on collectively that could potentially make a real difference to people’s lives.
It will also feature a recorded interview with Professor Rory O’Connor from the University of Glasgow, who will share his unique insights from over 30 years of suicide prevention research.
All are very welcome to attend. The event is supported by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North East and North Cumbria (ARC NENC).
