Following National Care Leavers’ Month (November), we are highlighting the work taking place across the NHS and its partners to help young people with care experience access employment opportunities and build successful careers.
The NHS Universal Family offer was developed to support care-experienced young people interested in health and care roles. This includes initiatives such as guaranteed interviews for care leavers applying for NHS jobs, provided they meet the essential requirements for the role.
Feedback from young people has shown that pre-employment support is equally important. To address this, specially designed workshops have been delivered in partnership with Newcastle’s Live Theatre. These sessions focus on developing communication skills, building confidence, and equipping participants with the knowledge needed for the world of work.
Following positive feedback from the Newcastle pilot, further sessions have taken place in South Shields, with additional workshops planned for Darlington and Cumbria.
