A new national opportunity is inviting health, care and community partners to work together to improve cancer care for people across the UK. Macmillan Cancer Support, in partnership with Q, hosted by the NHS Alliance, has launched the Macmillan Q Lab, an innovation programme focused on one important question: “How might we reimagine holistic cancer care closer to people’s homes?” Over a nine-month period, participants will take part in workshops, peer learning, coaching and a structured design process to develop innovative solutions that could make cancer care more accessible, equitable and community-focused. The NIHR INSIGHTs for the North East and North Cumbria programme is offering full funding for registered health and care workers to undertake a research master’s degree, either full or part-time. The programme is keen to support individuals already working in health and care, including nurses, midwives, Allied Health Professionals, public health and social care practitioners in the region. NHS Charities Together has launched a £16m Workforce Wellbeing Programme to support NHS staff across the UK. The ambitious programme aims to improve NHS staff health and wellbeing, in turn making sure patients are provided with the care they need. Applications are now open for round two of the Cross-Sector Experience Awards from the Academy of Medical Sciences. This funding scheme provides up to £100,000 to support individuals who want to gain skills and experience working in a different sector for three to twelve months. Awardees will have the opportunity to share knowledge across sectors, generate new ideas and foster long-term collaborations. The funders encourage people from all disciplines and sectors to apply, including those not related to research. In March 2024 the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) launched a major new pledge to climate change and sustainability in health and social care. The new research funding opportunity is intended to support the health and social care system to become more sustainable. From November 2024, NIHR will be welcoming applications for both: new primary research studies to establish the effectiveness of new, promising, or existing interventions; and evidence synthesis to support the translation of effective interventions into policy and practice.
