North Cumbria School of Generalism 2024

Applications are now open for the fourth cohort of the North Cumbria School of Generalism, delivered by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS FT (NCIC). The School of Generalism is hosted by NCIC on behalf of NHS England North East, and aims to provide all NHS staff with common concepts and languages to help improve patient care. The Trust will again be delivering an innovative program giving the opportunity for 24 multi-professional, multi-disciplinary, clinical and administrative/management staff to learn alongside each other. Women’s health innovation conference

Work to progress the women’s health implementation plan is underway as we seek to achieve better, fairer health for women and girls in our region. As we build this movement of change, the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board will be hosting its second Women’s Health Innovation Conference on Thursday 11 July, 8:45am – 4:30pm, at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead. The theme for this year’s conference is: Spotlight on Women’s Health: rewriting the narrative. Changing culture, hearts, and minds – access to Oliver’s Training is available now

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose tragic, avoidable death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training. In July 2022, the Health and Care Act set out a new requirement that CQC registered health and social care providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role. Oliver’s Training is the government’s preferred and recommended programme. Health literacy is about people being able to understand health information. It’s about us making it easier for them to do this. It’s talking to patients using everyday words. It’s writing to them in a way that’s clear. This helps our patients make informed choices about their health. The average reading age of adults in the UK is 9-11 years old. Half of adults find it hard to understand health information. So they struggle to use it to help their health and wellbeing. This creates health inequalities. Good and better housing is crucial for the mental and physical health of our communities – this was the focus of an event held earlier this month which brought together colleagues from across the region.
