North Cumbria School of Generalism 2024

Applications are now open for the fourth cohort of the North Cumbria School of Generalism, delivered by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS FT (NCIC). The School of Generalism is hosted by NCIC on behalf of NHS England North East, and aims to provide all NHS staff with common concepts and languages to help improve patient care. The Trust will again be delivering an innovative program giving the opportunity for 24 multi-professional, multi-disciplinary, clinical and administrative/management staff to learn alongside each other. #StayAndThrive international recruitment celebrations in Workington and Carlisle

Two events celebrating the #StayAndThrive initiative through international recruitment took place. The events were part of funding secured to celebrate the contribution of overseas staff within North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC), and the staff who have supported them in their journeys. The events were aimed at celebrating diversity within the trust, developing a sense of belonging for overseas nurses and midwives, and developing integration within the teams that they work in. The first #StayAndThrive event took place at the Washington Central Hotel in Workington, where attendees were treated to hot beverages including homemade chai tea served with a hot and cold buffet. “Illuminating and inspiring” – The palliative care learning event reconnecting, rebuilding and respecting across North Cumbria

Around 150 health and care professionals came together on 15 November with the aim of developing palliative and end of life care across North Cumbria. Supported by Dr Kathryn Mannix, the event at the Greenhill Hotel (Wigton) looked at the ingredients which support a ‘good death’. Those who attended spent time considering the gaps, and how we could better work together to make improvements for patients. Dr Mannix, author of ‘With The End in Mind’ and ‘Listen’, described the event as “illuminating and inspiring” and spoke positively about the great energy in the room.
