The North East and North Cumbria Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub has published its August 2026 briefing, highlighting the free, confidential support available to anyone working in health or social care across the region.

Demand for the service continues to grow. Between May and July, 755 staff contacted the Hub, including a record 288 referrals in July. The Hub still has capacity to support more people, with 99% of those providing feedback saying they felt listened to and supported, and 92% reporting that the service helped them remain in or return to work.

Support when you need it

The Hub offers timely appointments with experienced NHS clinicians, followed by up to three brief therapy or support sessions where appropriate. Most appointments take place by video or telephone and are designed to fit around staff needs.

The latest briefing also includes details of the popular six-week Managing Emotions and Stress Less online groups, which begin again in September. These supportive sessions help participants build practical skills for emotional resilience and managing stress.

Staff working in an NHS trust in the region can also access personalised social prescribing support. This service can help people who are off work, finding it difficult to remain at work or preparing to return following ill health. Support may include rebuilding confidence and routine, reducing isolation and connecting with practical community resources.

Reach out today

If you are struggling at work, at home or with both, you do not have to manage it alone. Complete the Hub’s confidential self-referral form, email [email protected] or leave a confidential message on 0191 223 2030. The team aims to make contact within one working day.

Find out more and access support through the Staff Wellbeing Hub.
