We are delighted to share an exciting regional event that brings together people from across health, care, local authority, education and voluntary sectors to explore how we can all make a difference through Making Every Contact Count (MECC).
Taking place on Wednesday 3 June 2026, Making Every Contact Count: Where are your opportunities? is a free, full-day conference delivered in collaboration with Northumbria University and supported by North East and North Cumbria NHS. The event will be held at the Business and Law Building, City Campus East, Northumbria University, Newcastle.
MECC is about using everyday conversations to support healthier choices and improve population health. This conference offers a valuable opportunity to explore how MECC can be applied across different roles, settings and sectors, through interactive workshops, practical examples and shared learning.
Attendees will hear from professionals showcasing real-world MECC approaches, learn from current research and policy perspectives, and connect with others who are passionate about health promotion and reducing inequalities. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and places are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with capacity for up to 200 attendees.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in health promotion, MECC or population health, including staff working in healthcare, education, local authorities, the voluntary and community sector, and wider public services.
The morning keynote session (9.30–11.00am) will feature insights from national and regional leaders:
During the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in four workshops, choosing from a range of sessions that reflect the breadth of MECC in action. Example workshop themes include empowering staff to use MECC confidently, applying a health equity lens to health protection responses, embedding MECC within the Department for Work and Pensions, father-inclusive practice, integrating MECC into university curricula, and learning from MECC research across multiple projects.
